    The paper gives a survey of the electric power utility industry, its background and culture together with the challenges that it has to be face. Just as the ubiquitous operational amplifier (or OP-AMP) plays an important role in low power engineering, the advance of high power electronics has at its disposal megawatt OP-AMPs which can be useful to the electric power utility industry in meeting the challenges
