Abstract
This paper deals with a unique power conversion method combined with voltage and current type converter. Harmonic characteristics of the multilevel hybrid converter system with two basic hybrid converters applied to a static reactive power compensator are studied from the analysis of the system, simulations for a 3MVA model and experiments of a laboratory model under the steady state conditions. It has been confirmed that the input power line voltages of the converter system and the compensating currents could be controlled low harmonic waveforms without passive ac filters.
