Abstract :
Effects of host and particle shape on the third order optical nonlinearities of CdS nanorods and CdS nanoparticles were investigated by using Z-scan technique with nanosecond pulses at 532 nm. The experimental results show that the third order optical nonlinearity of CdS nanorods/N, N-dimethyllformaide(DMF) suspension is greater than that of CdS nanoparticles. Experimental results show that CdS nanoparticles/water suspension exhibits greater third order nonlinear optical nonlinearity than CdS nanoparticles/DMF suspension. These indicate that the third order nonlinear optical performances strongly depend on the shape and host of the CdS nanomaterials as described by the Maxwell-Garnett Effective Medium Theory (MGT).
