Abstract :
Video-on-demand becomes the important services for many broadband access networks. The major challenge for the VOD system is needs of huge bandwidth. EPON provides a low-cost and high-speed solution for multimedia service such as VOD. In this paper, we propose architecture based on EPON, using multicast LLID in downstream direction and special proxy mechanism responsible for VOD requests. We set multicast LLID for videos´ packets so that all of ONUs can accept them. With this kind of architecture, we can save huge amount of bandwidth in feeder fibre.
