Abstract :
A major refurbishment of the excitation systems of every generator unit in a power station may in itself be regarded as unusual, requiring a well planned strategy for implementation. Consider then if this was required at every major generating station on a power system. This is the situation presently being faced in Argentina where an intensive programme for the retrofitting of power system stabilisers is underway. This paper discusses the strategy being adopted by the various parties involved and makes the point that whilst it is governed to a large extent by conditions particular to the system itself, other external factors have combined to influence the approach adopted
