Abstract
Static power converters can be analyzed by several powerful computer simulation tools. In the case of complex circuits such as multilevel inverters, they are usually modeled as a set of switch. This modeling method results in convergence and long run-time problems. This paper proposes functional simulation model for the optimized harmonic stepped-waveform (OHSW) multilevel voltage-source inverter (VSI) which is based on the switching function concept. Using this method the memory and the simulation run-time minimized and the converter can be effectively modeled according to its function, rather than its topology.
