Abstract :
Owing to lack of practical optical buffers, a node in an optical packet-switched network is unable to first store incoming data packets and then allocates the required resources for the data packets. All the required resources such as output channels and wavelength converters must be properly reserved before the data packets arrive at the node. Since the performance of resource reservations depend highly on various system parameters, the performance of an optical packet-switched network will be degraded if an inappropriate resource reservation scheme is used. In this paper, we investigate the appropriate resource reservation schemes for different scenarios.
