  • Abstract
    Ag plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII) technology was employed to modify polyethylene surface for enhancing bacterial disinfection and osteoblastic biocompatibility. Our study has demonstrated that Ag PIII modified surface possesses of excellent disinfection against Escherichia coli. In vitro assays of ostoblastic cells indicate that low number of osteoblast cells adheres to this surface, and they have low viability and proliferation rate. But this surface isn´t observed to mediate osteogenic differentiation of cells. Therefore, Ag PIII modification can endow this surface with excellent disinfection with little damage to cell and tissue.
