Abstract :
As the size and number of distributed computing and telecommunications systems increase, it becomes evident that the key to efficient and reliable operating environments depends on our ability to monitor and control devices, services and applications. Before such resources can be managed, however, each must be equipped with a “hook” through which management systems can perform management functions. We refer to such a hook as the management interface. This paper presents the design and development of a tool that automates the instrumentation of management interfaces into managed resources. The use of this tool greatly reduces the complexity and time needed, and therefore the cost of preparing the resources for management
