The cultivation of the innovative ability of college students plays an important role in higher education. The paper seeks to outline a systematic strategy in the cultivation and improvement process of innovative ability. The concept of innovation and innovative ability are reviewed. The influencing factors and problems in the cultivation of innovative ability are discussed. Finally, suggestions are put up so as to make contribution to the improvement of the innovative ability of research university students.
