Abstract
A modification of the basic penalty function method is used to obtain finite-element solutions to cavity resonance and waveguide problems. This method produces divergence-free eigenvectors that are insensitive (over several orders of magnitude) to the penalty parameter with only a minimal increase in computation time. The proposed method is easy to implement and numerically efficient. An example is presented.<>
