Abstract :
A finite element model was established to simulate the interaction between an atherosclerotic artery with residual stress and a cardiovascular stent when the stent was implanted. Results showed that the amplitude and the gradient of stress in the vascular wall were both larger than that in the model without considering residual stress. It has been found that the residual stress worsens the mechanical environment of the vascular wall and can be the obstacle of a successful stent implanting.
