Abstract :
SO2 can be removed from flue gas by leaching coal pyrite. In this study, a rotating-stream tray scrubber was used for SO2 removal with coal-slime which was derived from coal washing process. Effects of parameters on SO2 removal were experimentally investigated including liquid-to-gas ratio, gas velocity, slurry retention time, slurry solid content, and cylindrical baffle height. The variations of pH under different operating conditions were also determined and discussed. Results showed that an increase of about 10 percentage points in SO2 removal efficiency could be achieved by properly increasing the value of the above parameters. Furthermore, the variation of leached iron concentration of the slurry demonstrated the continuously leaching of coal pyrite in coal-slime during SO2 removal.
