Abstract :
Phasic 3-D images of the left and right heart walls are generated from a small set of magnetic resonance (MR) spin echo slices. From six to eight slices are obtained obliquely to the body axis but perpendicular to the long axis of the left ventricle. The orientation allows for an efficient rendering algorithm. The chamber edges are extracted and interpolated so that the heart can be described as a set of polygons. On a Sun S3/60 workstation the reconstructed images can be viewed at any angle and displayed in cine format at up to 16 frames/s. In addition, quantitative information such as left ventrical mass and ejection fraction can be calculated
