Abstract :
This paper presents performance results of a local distribution system for interactive multimedia TV (IMTV) to the home. The transmission scheme used in this distribution system is a modified version of the 16-CAP encoding scheme that has been chosen by the Technical Committee of the ATM Forum as the ATM LAN physical layer interface standard at 51.84 Mb/s for category 3 unshielded twisted pair (UTP) wiring. The cable considered for the performance study is a BKMA cable which consists of 25 pairs of common, voice-grade UTP wires. It is shown that the 51.84 Mb/s downstream and 1.62 Mb/s upstream IMTV signals are carried to and from home over 600-ft UTP distribution cable in the presence of far-end crosstalk
