Abstract
Building ATM-based distributed interactive multimedia systems with end-to-end quality of service (QoS) guarantees raises a complex set of issues. In this paper various issues, means and mechanisms involved in building such systems, using the conventional Unix operating system are addressed and explored. While the study focuses on the end systems, a simple network model is also developed, which facilitates the provision of the end-to-end QoS guarantees. An end-to-end QoS architecture is proposed to facilitate the performance guarantees for the end-user
