Title :
Modular evolution of network signaling for broadband
Author_Institution :
Bellcore, Red Bank, NJ, USA
Abstract :
This paper describes current work on network signaling protocols for broadband taking place in the ITU Study Group 11. Interconnection of public switched ATM networks will use the broadband ISDN user part protocol, which is an extension of Signalling System 7 protocols to support ATM SVC connections. Bellcore is participating in efforts in the ITU to develop the protocol in a modular fashion to allow the protocol to support multipoint and multiconnection call services. In addition, the protocol will utilize the messaging functionality of SS7 to provide look-ahead and call/connection separation features
