Achievement goal orientation has been the focus of a great deal of theoretical research in human resource management practices due to the impact that achievement goals are hypothesized to have on employee performance, but the empirical studies on multidimensional achievement goal orientation in Chinese culture are very limited. A theoretical achievement goal orientation — job performance impact model was proposed in this study. Questionnaires on both achievement goal orientation and job performance were specifically designed based on the proposed impact model. 288 sets of data were collected from six high-tech firms in Zhangjiang High-Tech Park. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used as the main method for empirical data analysis. The proposed impact model was validated by the empirical data obtained in this study. The relationships between employee achievement goal orientations and work performance were investigated and explained.
