Abstract :
This paper is concerned with the estimation of voltage collapse that is a prime research area in power systems. A very simple technique to predict steady state voltage collapse is proposed. The technique utilizes the basic concept of maximum possible power transfer through a line. Considering the power flow through the line, two voltage collapse proximity indicators (VCPI) are calculated for each line. The technique described does not involve computational complexities and therefore can be easily simulated. The performance of the proposed indicator has been tested on a 6 Bus Standard Test System and on an IEEE 24 Bus Reliability Test System. The results are encouraging. The proposed technique was also compared with other established techniques and its advantages are clearly demonstrated.
