Abstract :
In this paper, we consider the fast cell selection (FCS) with interference avoidance (IA) and the adaptive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) mode selection in multi-cell environments. In the FCS, the mobile station (MS) near the cell boundary can exploit cell selection diversity but may suffer from other cell interference (OCI). To mitigate OCI, adaptive MIMO mode selection combined with IA is considered for the proposed FCS scheme. Based on analytic ergodic capacity, the MS can determine candidate cells for FCS with IA and selects MIMO mode. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed scheme considerably outperforms the conventional fractional frequency reuse (FFR) schemes particularly in the cell boundary region.
