Abstract :
This paper presents a battery charging system that uses a photovoltaic panel and determines the charging current at different levels of solar illumination. In the analysis of photovoltaic cells, one must bear in mind that the light reaches the cell in various amounts, the cell is exposed to significant temperature variations during its operation, the solar panels differ in size and, of course, various loads and power consumers are connected to the output of the solar panels. The impossibility of creating constant conditions in natural lighting and temperature leads to the necessity to design systems able to determine, at any given time, the point of maximum transfer from the solar cells. Generally speaking, in addition to the panels, we required a storage battery able to deliver energy in the absence of sunlight, a voltage regulator to prevent the battery overcharging, a disconnection device to be used when the battery is discharged below the limit, a measuring device to indicate the power flow direction and the amount of electric power produced / consumed.
