Abstract
This paper presents the performance of nonceramic insulators under tropical conditions in Sri Lanka and Tanzania. Different types of 33 kV distribution insulators have been installed in the field in polluted and clean locations for more than three years and their surface properties were checked periodically. Investigation of biological growth on nonceramic surfaces is presented as well.
