            Abstract : 
In order to base power system protective measures against lightning overvoltages on a regional data collection, the authors intend to develop a modern computer-based lightning detecting and photonic locating system. In this paper, the operating principles of the lightning detection and some experimental results of thunderstorm activity in Thailand are discussed.
