            Abstract : 
This paper shows a new reason for the cause of bearing damages in medium power AC motor drives. Laboratory and field tests with a 250 kW induction motor show that this new phenomenon is dominant with IEC 355 frame size motors, where insulated bearings are not generally used. Field detection and the elimination of the bearing current problem is discussed in detail
