Abstract :
In this paper, the hybrid differential evolution (HDE) is used to solve the static economic dispatch problem. Different from the differential evolution (DE), two operations, migrating operation and acceleration operation, are embedded into the original differential evolution. These two operations act as a trade-off operator. The acceleration operation is used to accelerate convergence, although this faster convergence generally leads to obtaining a local optimum. The migrating operation is used to escape the local point since the new candidate individuals are regenerated on the basis of the best individual at the current generation. Correspondingly, the diversity of the candidates can still be retained by such a regeneration procedure. Two static economic dispatch problems including one 40-unit Taiwan Power Company (TPC) system and one 140-unit Korean power system from the literature are used to prove the performance of the HDE method. The convergence property of the HDE method can be shown from the computation results of the Taiwan Power Company system. From the computation results of the Korean power system, the HDE method is especially suitable for application to large-scale practical economic dispatch systems.
