Abstract :
Digital emulation of dynamic delay is an important part of evaluating communications, GPS, and RADAR systems under motion. While much work has been done in developing delay filters, very little has been published addressing the specifics of dynamic delay performance. This paper derives expressions for the spectra of ideal discrete delays and a continuous linear interpolator under a constant velocity, develops performance measures for dynamic delay emulation, and evaluates popular delay filters using this criteria. Results show that equiripple polyphase filters provide the control necessary to meet average gain requirements for a wideband application without generating additional signal distortion.
