  • Abstract
    This paper describes a specific 8-bit data interface circuit for the digital signal microprocessor TMSC320C31 from Texas Instruments. This DSP can be connected to any bus through a similar interface discussed here. The interface´s simplicity and functionality are the key for such usage in the Telecommunications Institute-Pole of Coimbra. The low cost interface only consists of four ICs, a 2K×8 dual-port static RAM, two 20-pin PALs and a 20-pin data transceiver circuit. It has firstly been part of an H.261 video encoder board and then used in other PC boards such as an ISDN, an 11.261 video decoder and a QCIF video codec, all on an ISA bus. This interface is now being implemented on a PCI bus in our laboratories
