Abstract :
A new multiple access protocol, namely the AMAPIS-2 protocol is presented and evaluated by means of simulation. The new protocol is compared to the token bus protocol. For low and intermediate values of throughput the new protocol performs better than the token bus. The range within which the new protocol is superior than the token bus is expanding as the number of stations increases. This feature is very important for a typical industrial environment due to the large number of stations typically included
