  • Abstract
    Tradition motor protection relays utilising bimetallic strips lack the adjustments necessary to provide adequate protection for modern motors. The microprocessor based relays provide much more comprehensive protection and with their wide ranges of adjustment allow a closer match with the thermal capability of the motors. The availability of control functions coupled with the ability to acquire data and communicate this via a distributed control system (DCS) gives significant advances in the ability to protect large and important drives
