Abstract
This paper is concerned with the problem of real time emitter recognition and location of broadband sources. The cross-correlation method with an interpolation function is investigated for the estimation of the source position. The performance of a real passive acoustic system is studied and the necessary software and hardware implementation is explained. The real time processing and presentation of the results was implemented by the use of intelligent software techniques and very fast hardware. The formulae employed for the recognition and position estimation are cited. All the experiments were done under real conditions. Finally, some numerical examples are cited which provide a more quantiative study of the system performance for recognition and position estimation of a sound target
