Abstract :
The ENRI has developed a compact 76 GHz radar for helicopter collision avoidance systems. In this paper, the radar system and the antenna part are focused upon. The radar system uses a direct conversion method for detection to simplify and minimize the radio frequency circuit. The antenna uses a carbon fiber composite material for the parabolic surface to reduce the weight of antenna systems. Finally, the whole obstacle detection system is composed of the radar, color camera, and infrared camera. This system has the capability of being lifted up by a small radio control helicopter. The power lines in front of buildings are expressed as a real time radar scope through the Wireless LAN systems.
