Abstract :
Although many studies proved that it was possible to embed application servers on a chip with limited resources, security considerations were generally marginalized. Due to their frontal position, application servers are subject to an increasing number of threats. These vulnerabilities are actually ignored in most cases mainly because of cost constraints. This paper introduces the concept of Secure Application Sever on a Chip (SASoC), and presents a cost-effective design of (SASoC) fully based on Open Source Intellectual Propriety Cores. A LAYER2/LAYER3 packet filter compliant on the AMBA 2.0 on chip Bus was designed to increase the global efficiency of the CPU subsystem running the application server. As a proof of concept, a monitoring system for wireless sensor network was implemented on CYCLONE 2 Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA).
