Abstract :
In order to provide communication facilities for data exchange among workstations located in a modern organization it is necessary to interconnect different local area networks (LANs). Normally, these interconnected LANs have different access media and topologies (Ethernet, token-ring, FDDI, . . .), communications protocols (TCP/IP, OSI, . . .) and services. A proposal is presented for an integrated network management system, suitable for such a heterogeneous scenario, that will hide the differences of the underlying LANs. This management system provides a central management workstation with remote access and display, and monitoring agents
