Abstract :
A new method is investigated for the control of induction motor drives using a PWM voltage source inverter. A simplified control algorithm was developed in stator flux coordinates which corresponds to a compromise between performance and hardware complexity. Current sensors are further suppressed in order to achieve attractive low cost systems for small motor drives. Comparative results are established between the proposed method and the classic rotor field oriented control method, showing interesting characteristics for the new one. This simplified control procedure makes it suitable for application with an eight bit microcontroller, experimental results from such a system are shown. Intrinsic capabilities and limitations are pointed out
