Abstract :
High frequency propagation of electromagnetic wavefields from an extended aperture distribution through a complicated environment occurs in many applications of current interest. Geometric optical ray tracing provides a versatile approximate approach to this class of problems, but it fails in transition regions surrounding shadow boundaries and caustics. The uniformization required there can be established by field tracking with Gabor-based narrow-waisted ray-like Gaussian beams (GB). Specialization to narrow-waisted non-collimated ray-like GBs reduces the algorithms to a form which, in previous (1D aperture)-(2D field) problems, has been found robust, efficient, and capable of synthesizing wave interaction with complex environments by individual beam tracking and subsequent recombination. In this paper, attention is given to radiation of three-dimensional (3D) vector fields from spherically layered radome-covered truncated 2D aperture distributions, thereby extending our previous study of 2D fields excited by 1D apertures covered by cylindrically layered radomes.
