  • Abstract
The application of the multiresolution Fourier transform (MFT) has been investigated for the purpose of analyses of polyphonic musical signals, and its potential for achieving reliable automatic transcription has been shown. This paper presents improved transcription algorithms which use the MFT coefficients for the recognition of a single polyphonic musical instrument. The algorithms have been tested on acoustic piano signals. Results show that reliable detection can be achieved if some limitations are imposed on the playing performance. Good results are attained in more complicated performances than those reported previously
