Abstract
Existing XQuery-to-SQL algorithms all depend on special XML-to-RDB schema-mapping algorithm, but in the real applications, an independent method is needed because people can´t ensure that the two translating algorithm come from the same industry projects and conflicts can´t be avoided. Aiming at this problem, we propose an XQuery-to-SQL translating algorithm with little dependence on any schema-mapping algorithm between XML and RDB by setting up a general virtual relational schema for XML document (GVRS for short), which can be used as the bridge between XML view and its bottom relational storage. Our method separates XQuery-to-SQL algorithm from schema mapping between XML and RDB, so the conflicts can be avoided successfully.
