Abstract :
Wavelength division multiplexing has become a leading technology for long haul transmission systems which operate at 1550 nm wavelength. One of the key components of such systems are tunable filters. In this paper we present micromachined thermally and electrostatically tunable filters with half symmetric cavities. System experiments in an 8 channel 2.5 Gbit/s transmission system prove the feasibility of the implementation of micromachined filters in WDM systems.
