Abstract :
Polaroid´s toxic use and waste reduction (TUWR) program is discussed. The goals of the program are to minimize the use of certain toxic materials, and to maximize the recycling of wastes that are generated. In the design of new processes and products. the contribution to corporate waste performance is evaluated as a factor of importance equal to cost and quality. Particular attention is given to the environmental accounting and reporting system, developed as a centralized database to support and measure progress achieved by TUWR. Freon 113 reduction is considered as an example
