Abstract :
We present a new active contour algorithm to delineate vocal folds from high-speed digital recordings of the larynx. The main novelty of this algorithm is that it incorporates effectively our prior knowledge about the local spatial and temporal behavior of the vocal folds. This allows the active contours to track better the vocal folds in areas where traditionally active contour algorithms perform poorly. We present numerical examples with real data where the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated
