Abstract
It is well known that providing reasonable resource allocation schemes during the handoff execution phase can improve the handoff performance of broadband wireless access (BWA) system. In this paper, to improve the handoff performance from a different aspect and provide differentiated handoff QoS, we propose a handoff initiation threshold algorithm supporting multi-services. Our study indicates that the accuracy of the handoff initiation can be improved by integrating the information of the QoS demands of service, the change of the link quality and the speed of the MS as the handoff trigger. The analytical results show that the proposed algorithm can decrease the unnecessary handoff and control overhead during the handoff initiation phase, while the other aspects of the system performance are not deteriorated.
