Abstract :
A procedure based on moment-method/GTD (geometrical theory of diffraction) analyses that can be followed to model a circular array of monopoles which is to be mounted on the fuselage of an aircraft is discussed. By studying the currents induced in all the array elements, a simple model which takes into account coupling effects is obtained for each monopole of the array. This model is then used to obtain the radiation patterns of the TCAS III (traffic collision-avoidance and alert system) circular array mounted on a Boeing 727 and a Boeing 737. It is emphasized that to obtain the array patterns, it is necessary to first obtain the phase center of each element of the TCAS array as well as the phase center of the four-element model.<>
