Abstract :
In this paper, a wireless sensor network (WSN) for monitoring of the track cycling performance will be presented. Many wireless standards, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Zigbee, have been used to monitor the bike performance. One of the wireless standards, known as Advanced and Adaptive Network Technology (ANT) has received significant attention especially for sport and health applications. This paper will present some design considerations and several challenges to design and develop a WSN platform, which is based on ANT wireless standard. The proposed platform can be characterized by two main features: (i) low power consumption and (ii) compact size & lightweight. In addition, low power microcontroller will be incorporated into the design, which be used to acquire the bike parameters for on-site analysis. Energy-efficiency of the bike wireless sensor network is achieved by decreasing the message rate and broadcast data transmission mode was selected.
