Abstract
We introduce a new MAC protocol that provides quality of service (QoS) support in UWB-based wireless local area networks. The MAC protocol allocates transmission opportunities using a joint scheduling and resource control algorithm. The algorithm accounts for unique UWB characteristics, such as the coexistence of multiple simultaneous transmissions, and the possibility of dynamically assigning the nodes´ transmission rate and sending power. The algorithm´s performance results, which are obtained using simulation, show that the proposed algorithm provides QoS support while optimizing resource utilization.
