Abstract
A fuzzy coprocessor (FC) that is area- and speed-optimized and can be integrated as an on-chip microcontroller module is described. The performance of the FC is depicted. With 1000 rules and four inputs, the computation time is 126.5 mu s. The coprocessor is programmed with an evaluation board. The system under control is connected to the host microcontroller that is supported by the FC in fuzzy computing. For development purposes, the knowledge-base memory (KBM) is a separate device. It stores the rules and the membership functions of inputs and outputs and is programmed by development hardware that is the interface to a fuzzy development system. A list of design features is given.<>
