Abstract :
Computer-aided methods for the diagnosis and therapy of speech breathing disorders caused by brain damage (dysarthrias) are described. These methods make it possible to evaluate a speech disorder for diagnostic purposes using objective parameters. Special therapeutic tasks which proceed in accordance with the principle of biofeedback make it possible for the patient to carry out self-therapy through individualized exercise packages. Pathological speech patterns can be readily recognized, classified and quantified using the methods presented. It is concluded that these methods are clinically practical and show promise of becoming a useful clinical tool for the treatment of dysarthrias
