  • Abstract
We propose a QoS-adaptive resource reservation scheme for MPEG4-based multimedia services in next-generation wireless networks. To support this scheme, user connections are categorized into many classes according to their QoS requirements. Every class has a different precedence value. Connections in the higher priority classes are served preferentially. In addition, a borrow-release algorithm is developed. Using this algorithm, reservation-failed connections in the higher priority classes can borrow some resources from the lower priority classes. Moreover, an efficient admission control algorithm is designed in our reservation scheme, which further improves the performance of the resource reservation. Simulation results and theoretical analysis show that the proposed scheme improves connection-blocking rate (CBR), connection-dropping rate (CDR) and resource utilization ratio significantly compared to the existing ones.
