Abstract :
A charge-modulation device (CMD) image sensor that has active pixels and an X-Y addressing scheme is described. The X-Y address type image sensors have the capability of performing various scanning schemes and, with the CMD pixel size, can be reduced without degrading sensor performance. The 2/3-in optical format 2-M-pixel CMD image sensor, equipped with an electronic shutter, operates in both the interlaced and the progressive scan mode. The performance of the sensor in the progressive scan mode is described. The saturation signal and sensitivity are 28 mu A and 760 nA/1*, respectively. The blooming level is less than -110 dB with a V/10 exposure. Image lag is under the detectable limit (0.1% of saturation signal). Power dissipation is 160 mW. Dynamic range, defined as a shot noise of dark current, is estimated at 64 dB.<>
