Abstract :
A new type of broadband electromagnetic (EM) absorber is designed with the genetic algorithm (GA). The absorber is based on a multilayer dielectric substrate sandwiched by the frequency selective surface (FSS) with resistive patch. Equivalent circuit theory shows that the normal incidence refection coefficient of this GA optimized structure is lower then -5 dB in the frequency band of 2-18 GHz with a thickness less than 1 cm. The reflection characteristic of this broadband absorber is also verified by the analysis of the Finite Element Method (FEM).
