Abstract
The growing use of the distributed generation over the last thirty years has created several major challenges when connecting them to a distributed network. The most immediate of these is that the voltage at the point of connection with vary depending on the power supplied to the network and may cause it to exceed statutory limits. This paper describes a new control scheme for a distributed generator that ensures that it supports the voltage control within the network and thus enables the distributed generator to contribute to network voltage management. The schemes performance is demonstrated using a detailed model of a distributed generator connected to a distribution network. It is shown that using this new control scheme, the distribution networks voltage constraints are maintained while maximizing the active power delivered by the distributed generation.
